FAQ

Does this site upload my image?

No. The generator runs in your browser. Your image is processed on your device. (The site may load ads and analytics scripts; see the Privacy Policy.)

Why does my chart look “blocky”?

Why do I see lots of single stitches (“confetti”)?

Are the DMC colors accurate?

They’re a best-effort match from the image’s screen colors to DMC. Screens vary, and photos can be edited. Always compare to real floss before buying a large set.

My printer makes the chart too small / hard to read. What can I do?

Can I use any image?

Please only use images you have the rights to use (your own photos, licensed artwork, public domain, etc.). The generator doesn’t grant copyright permissions.

What fabric count should I use?

If you’re unsure, 14‑count Aida is a common beginner choice because it balances readability and detail. Lower counts (like 11‑count) make larger stitches; higher counts (16–18) make smaller stitches. See the beginner guide: Cross stitch basics.

How many strands of floss should I stitch with?

A typical starting point is 2 strands on 14‑count. On 11‑count you may prefer 3 strands for fuller coverage. On 18‑count, 2 strands is common (or 1 strand for a lighter look). Coverage is personal preference — try a small swatch first.

How do I make the pattern less “speckled”?

Speckles usually come from photos with noise or textured backgrounds. Try this workflow:

  1. Crop tighter to the subject.
  2. Lower Max DMC colors (fewer colors = fewer tiny color changes).
  3. Turn on Confetti cleanup (Light → Medium).
  4. If the background is the problem, consider increasing brightness and setting a lighter Background value so near‑white becomes clean white.

For deeper guidance, read Photo → pattern: cleaner chart settings.

Can I stitch directly from my phone/tablet?

Yes. Many stitchers prefer a zoomable chart on a tablet. You can download the PNG charts and open them in an image viewer, or use the printed charts. If you print, increasing Chart cell size usually helps.

Do you have beginner patterns I can practice with?

Yes — see Free mini patterns. They’re small charts designed to be finished quickly.
